MonumentsMonument to Orange, which saved Odessa

At the beginning of the Zhvanetskii boulevard  there is a monument to Orange , which saved the city . We know from history that the development of the city at the end of the XVIII century depended on the completion of thebuilding of the seaport , but the Emperor Paul I  cut off funding andto resume the building people  sent tropical fruits to the King to St. Petersburg  at the end of winter. They came to the court of the king, he gave money for the completion of the port and Odessa was saved.

Inside the orange there is a figure of Emperor Paul I. The sculptural composition comprises three horses harnessed into orange. On the orange there are the most famous buildings of Odessa: Opera House, Spaso- Preobrazhenskii Cathedral, the Vorontsov Palace colonnade .
